Police seek witnesses to fatal weekend collision

The Calgary Police Service is seeking witnesses to a fatal collision that occurred over the weekend.

On Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at approximately 6:35 a.m., a dark-colored SUV driven by a woman in her 40s, was travelling southbound on Deerfoot Trail over the Calf Robe Bridge. After passing under the railway tracks at a curve in the roadway, the vehicle went off the road to the right, striking the concrete base of an overhead sign post, which launched the SUV into the air.

The SUV landed further south, flipped and rolled several times before coming to a rest.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol and drugs are being investigated as possible factors.
