Police seek public assistance in locating unknown man connected to arson

We’re asking the public for their help to identify an unknown man believed to be responsible for leaving a suspicious package in the northeast last month.

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, at approximately 8:50 a.m., police were called to the area of the 1000 block of 68 Avenue N.E. for reports of a suspicious package that was believed to be an improvised explosive device that was left in a commercial area.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant who originally spotted the package and called police. In the interest of public safety, the Calgary Police Service Tactical Team was called out to inspect the package, which was ultimately determined to be safe and non-explosive.

After exhausting all investigative leads, police are now releasing CCTV images of the man in hopes the public can identify him.

He is described as having brown hair with a small build and was wearing a grey jacket and pants at the time of the incident. Photos of the suspect are available on the City of Calgary Newsroom.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the man is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
