Police seek owner of found money

We are asking for the public’s help to identify someone who may have lost a significant amount of cash in 2019 at a mall in northwest Calgary.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, a large sum of money was found by a Good Samaritan at North Hill Shopping Centre, located at 1632 14 Avenue N.W., and turned over to mall security. Several days after the discovery, the Good Samaritan called the Calgary Police Service to follow up on the status of the investigation and it was determined that the found money had never been reported to police.

Upon further investigation, we have now charged a former security guard after he neglected to inform authorities of the discovery while working for North Hill Shopping Centre.

Ronny James LABELLE, 50, of Calgary, is charged with one count of theft over $5000.

Investigators have taken a number of steps to locate the rightful owner of the money, however we have not yet been able to identify them. It is not believed that the original loss was ever reported to police.

We are asking that if you believe you are the rightful owner of this cash, or if you have any other information related to this investigation, to please call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234. A detailed description of what was lost will be required.

Information about this case can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
