Police seek information in vehicle arson

We are asking the public for information in relation to a vehicle arson earlier this week in the city’s southeast.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, police responded to reports of a vehicle fire in the 1600 block of 27 Street S.E. Upon arrival police located a black Hyundai Kona in an alleyway behind a residence. The Calgary Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fires. No injuries were reported.

Police now believe the vehicle may have been intentionally set on fire and are releasing photos of a vehicle of interest that was spotted in the area at the time of the incident.

The vehicle of interest is described as an early 2000s orange Mazda 3. Around the time of the arson, it was seen travelling westbound on 17 Avenue S.E. from 28 Street S.E.

Photos of the car are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

We are also asking anyone who may have witnessed or has dashcam footage of this vehicle or any suspicious activity in the area of Radisson Heights, specifically 27 Street S.E. and 28 Street S.E., between 15 Avenue S.E. and 17 Avenue S.E. to contact police.
