Police seek information in sexual assault of young girl

Investigators from our Child Abuse Unit are looking for information in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in August in Fish Creek Park. Police have identified a suspect, but are looking for additional information from the public in hopes of furthering the investigation.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, between 8 and 9 p.m., the victim, a young girl, was with her mother at a popular public swimming area called the Ice Caves, located within Fish Creek Park.

The victim’s mother was sitting on the bank of the creek, with several other families and children, and while the victim was swimming, it is believed an unknown man sexually assaulted her while in the water.

As the victim and her mother were leaving the swimming area, the victim disclosed the sexual assault to her mother, who immediately contacted police and reported the incident.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid-30s, and it is believed he frequents the Ice Caves, as the victim and her mother reported seeing the suspect and his family multiple times in the same location throughout July and August.

Police have safety measures in place to ensure no other children are victimized while the investigation continues.
