Police seek assistance to identify assault suspect

Update: The suspect in this incident has been identified. The suspect, 17, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

We are asking for the public’s help to identify a person believed to be responsible for an assault at CF Market Mall last month.

It is believed at about 4:15 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, four people entered the Sport Chek at CF Market Mall, located at 3625 Shaganappi Tr. N.W. An employee suspected the group of shoplifting and requested they leave the store. The group left without taking any items.

A short time later, one person from the group returned to the store, approached the employee, and sprayed the employee and her coworker with bear spray before leaving the mall in a vehicle.

The employees received First Aid and did not require transport to the hospital.

All investigative avenues to identify the suspect to date have been unsuccessful.
