Police seek assistance in identifying arson suspect

We are asking the public for their help in identifying an unknown man believed to be responsible for deliberately setting fire to a residential property in the northwest community of Varsity last week.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, an unknown man, who was captured on CCTV footage, was shown to be setting fire to a shed behind a home located in the 1100 block of Varsity Estates Drive N.W. The fire spread to the home, with the residents asleep inside. Thankfully, the residents were able to vacate the home without injury.  Investigators also believe the same man may have committed a car prowling in the area before setting the fire.

Investigators have spoken with several witnesses and reviewed CCTV from the area and are now looking for the public’s help to identify the man. A photo of the suspect is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Police are asking citizens not to approach the suspect if spotted in the community. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
