Police respond to fatal motorcycle collision

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man.

On Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at approximately 11:57 p.m., a collision occurred in the intersection of 16 Avenue and 10 Street N.W. At the time, it is believed an SUV operated by a woman in her 30s was turning from southbound 10 Street on to eastbound 16 Avenue N.W.

At the same time, a motorcycle, operated by a 20-year-old man, was travelling westbound on 16 Avenue N.W., approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed.

It is believed the rider changed lanes from the left lane to the left turn lane, and failed to stop for the red traffic signal before entering the intersection.

The motorcycle struck the SUV, resulting in the rider being dismounted from the motorcycle. The motorcycle came to rest at the area of impact, and the SUV travelled a short distance before coming to a rest near the centre median of 16 Avenue N.W.

The rider was transported to hospital in life-threating condition where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was uninjured.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in this collision on the part of the motorcyclist. Neither alcohol nor drug impairment are believed to be contributing factors.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage of the incident, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
