Police resolve standoff in southeast

The Calgary Police Service has resolved a standoff that occurred today in the community of Forest Lawn.

At approximately 10 a.m., on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, police were called to a business in the 5100 block of Hubalta Road for reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found one man who had been stabbed. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and his condition has since been upgraded to critical but stable.

Then around 10:35 a.m., a police officer was flagged down by a clerk in a convenience store located at 4500 block 8 Avenue S.E., after a customer had an armed altercation with another customer. The armed customer matched the description of the suspect in the initial stabbing.

Police followed the suspect from that store to the residence in the 4500 block of 7 Avenue S.E. The armed suspect refused to exit the residence and the area was contained to protect the public’s safety. The boundary around the residence was moved a few times throughout the day to ensure that citizens were a safe distance from the site.

At approximately 5 p.m., the suspect came out of the residence and was safely taken into custody. Charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using either of the following methods:
