Police request public assistance to locate stolen urn

Police and a victim of theft are asking if the public has any information regarding property stolen from the northeast community of Vista Heights.

On Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, an unknown man broke into a commercial storage facility located at 2140 23 Street N.E. and a number of sentimental items were taken from the victim’s storage locker. Among the items, was an urn containing the victim’s parents’ ashes.

The urn is described as blue and silver and approximately eight to 10 inches tall.

The suspect is described as a male with light complexion, who was wearing a grey hoodie under a black zip-up jacket, red baseball cap and black shoes with white soles. He was seen driving a Hyundai Kona believed to be a 2017 to 2022 model with an unknown passenger. We are looking to identify the man and the passenger.

“Given the contents of the stolen property, the belongings are very sentimental to the victim. We’re hoping the public may have seen the urn, or the culprit(s) will show some compassion and return the items to the victim,” says Detective Paul Hussey.

Stolen property can be reported online, at any district office or by calling the non-emergency line.
