Police releasing photos of sexual assault suspect
Sex Crimes Unit detectives are releasing images of a suspect on the one-year anniversary of a violent sexual assault that occurred in Forest Heights.
At approximately 4:45 a.m., on Sunday, July 14, 2019, police were called to the 500 block of 44 Street S.E., for reports of a woman being sexually assaulted by an unknown man. Police attended the scene and after an extensive search, located a woman suffering from serious injuries. She was transported to hospital by EMS in critical condition, where she remained for approximately three months before being released.
The victim suffered life-altering injuries as a result of the attack and continues to recover.
Investigators collected CCTV from the area and spoke to several witnesses, however the suspect’s identity remains unknown. The victim had no prior interaction with the suspect and investigators believe the attack to be random.
The man is described as tall, between 6’ and 6’2”, with a slender build and is believed to be in his teens or early 20s. Photos of the suspect are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
“This was an extremely traumatic assault,” says Det. Jeff Anderson of the CPS Sex Crimes Unit. “The victim fought very hard to survive and our investigators are committed to finding the person responsible and holding them accountable.”
