Police looking for blue SUV in extortion investigation

We are looking for the public’s help to locate a blue Hyundai Santa Fe that was involved in an attempted extortion targeting a South Asian victim in Calgary.

On Sunday, May 10, 2026, a victim living in the community of Saddle Ridge received threatening messages from an unknown individual demanding money. The suspect also sent a video of a shooting at a business unrelated to the victim as an intimidation tactic. The victim contacted police to report the incident and while speaking with investigators, the victim received another message from the suspect that included a video of the victim’s residence. 

Police immediately began investigating, while carrying out suppression efforts and safety plans to keep the victim and their family safe.

After a review of CCTV from the area, investigators identified a vehicle that is believed to be involved. Efforts to identify the driver and locate the vehicle have been unsuccessful and we are now asking for the public’s help.

The suspect vehicle is described as a blue 2005 to 2006 Hyundai Sante Fe, with tinted side windows. The vehicle also has distinguishing rust on the rear driver’s side wheel well and red tape on the driver’s side taillight. Photos of the vehicle are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
