Police investigating whether alcohol factored into fatal motorcycle collision

The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred last night.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, a motorcycle operated by a man in his early 50s was travelling westbound on Peigan Trail at 36 Street S.E. At the same time, an SUV travelling eastbound on Peigan, operated by a man in his 60s, made a turn onto northbound 36 Street S.E. While completing the turn, the front corner of the SUV struck the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the SUV drove away from the scene but was located and apprehended by police shortly afterward.

Alcohol is considered a factor in this collision.
