Police investigating targeted shooting in Sage Hill

Our Organized Crime Operations Unit is investigating a shooting that occurred today in northwest Calgary that left one man in critical condition.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, we responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Sage Meadows Green. Upon arrival, police located a man in his 40s suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Minutes later, police were called for reports of a vehicle fire in the nearby community of Evanston. It is believed the two incidents are connected, and that this vehicle was used in the shooting before being abandoned and set on fire in the 100 block of Evansglen Close N.W.

Although the investigation remains in the early stages, we believe the shooting was targeted and are also exploring possible connections to organized-crime conflict in Calgary.

Investigators have begun reviewing CCTV and interviewing witnesses, and we continue to ask individuals who have yet to speak with police to come forward.

“This incident was incredibly brazen and was witnessed by many Calgarians,” says Staff Sergeant Mark Rahn of the Organized Crime Operations Unit. “This shooting has the hallmarks of organized crime, and we’re looking to the public to help us identify who was responsible. If you have dashcam, CCTV or critical information that could help, we’re asking you to come forward.”

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the following areas, between 8:20 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., today, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, is asked to come forward:

·       100 block of Evansglen Close N.W.
