Police investigating sexual assault against minor

UPDATE - Both the witness and suspect in this case have been identified. Charges have been laid.

The Calgary Police Service is investigating after a 17-year-old girl reported being sexually assaulted in Hillhurst.

At approximately 9 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, the girl was approached by a man while exiting the 8 Street CTrain station. They had a brief conversation and then the girl started walking to Kensington.

It is believed that the man followed and engaged in another conversation with her while sitting on a bench in the 1200 block of Kensington Close N.W., and then sexually assaulted her.

Police are releasing a photo of a suspect in the hopes of identifying him. He is described as having light-brown skin, with black hair and a moustache. He spoke with a Hispanic accent and was wearing tan pants and brown shoes.

Investigators are also looking to identify a witness who briefly spoke to the suspect and took his business card. She is not suspected of any wrongdoing but could have information that would help the investigation.

She is described as Caucasian with dark hair, and she was wearing a black jacket and ripped blue jeans.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of either the suspect or witness is asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency number at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
