Police investigating serious injury collision

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a serious injury collision that occurred in the city’s northwest yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 2:40 p.m., on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, a green Dodge Grand Caravan was travelling eastbound in the 8400 block of 144 Avenue N.W. The Dodge crossed a double, solid yellow line into the path of a westbound white Kenworth T800 dump truck pulling a pup trailer.

The left front corner of the Dodge made contact with the left front bumper and wheel of the Kenworth resulting in significant damage to both. The Dodge continued a short distance east and came to rest facing westbound against the south guardrail. The Kenworth continued a short distance west and came to rest in the eastbound lane. The Kenworth dump truck and trailer were not loaded at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Dodge, a man in his 70s, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital. The driver of the Kenworth, man in his 30s, was not injured.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
