Police investigating robbery in Maple Ridge

The Calgary Police Service is investigating after a woman was the victim of a violent robbery and break and enter in the community of Maple Ridge.

At approximately 3 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, a woman had just parked her vehicle after arriving at her home in the 9900 block of Maplecreek Drive S.E. Her vehicle was immediately blocked on her driveway by a white GMC pickup truck and three men got out of the truck, assaulted the woman and used keys from her vehicle to enter her home.

Two men went through the home stealing electronics and money while the third man held the woman at gunpoint to prevent her from leaving or calling for help. Once the men in the home had finished searching for valuables, the men stole the victim’s vehicle, a green 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, and fled the scene.

The woman called the police once she was safe and was treated for minor injuries.

Around 8:30 a.m., the same morning, patrol units responded to reports of a vehicle driving erratically near the intersection of Memorial Drive and 28 Street S.E. Officers recognized that it was the victim’s stolen vehicle and followed it until the driver collided with a concrete barrier on the Reconciliation Bridge a short time later. The vehicle was left inoperable and a woman in her early 20s was arrested.

Charges are pending against the woman in custody, however, police do not believe she was directly involved the violent robbery. Investigators also do not believe that the robbery was random.
