Police investigating incident involving limousine

One man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition following an incident involving a limousine in downtown Calgary. Calgary Police Service officers continue to investigate the incident.

On Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of 11 Avenue S.W., for reports of a man suffering serious injuries following an incident involving a limousine. EMS attended the scene and transported the man to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The road remained closed for several hours while our Traffic Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident.

At this time, it is believed that the victim had been a passenger in the limousine and had exited the vehicle prior to the incident occurring. Shortly after exiting, the man was reported to be attempting to stand on the running board and hold onto the outside of the limousine while it was in motion. The limousine travelled a short distance down 11 Avenue S.W., before the man fell off near the intersection with 12 Street S.W.

Speed, alcohol and drugs on the part of the limousine driver are not believed to have been a factor in this incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service by calling 403-266-1234.
