Police investigating fatal hit and run

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is currently investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., on Monday, April 22, 2019, a 2006 Acura TL and a Toyota Tacoma were traveling eastbound on 32 Avenue N.E., towards 26 Street N.E., at a high rate of speed. As the vehicles approached the intersection, the lights were showing red against the two vehicles. A 38-year-old man was crossing 32 Avenue southbound and encroached into the path of the Acura.

The Acura struck the pedestrian, resulting in fatal injuries to the pedestrian. Both the Acura and Tacoma failed to stop at the scene.

At approximately midnight, a 19-year-old man attended the RCMP detachment in Chestermere where he was taken into custody. He is assisting police with their enquiries.
