Police investigating fatal CTrain collision involving pedestrian

We continue to investigate a fatal CTrain collision that occurred this morning near a northeast CTrain station.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, Friday,  July 5, 2024, we were called to the intersection of 36 Street N.E. and 44 Avenue N.E. for reports of a woman who was struck by a CTrain.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 90s, was crossing westbound across 36 Street N.E. on the north side of the intersection when she stepped in front of a CTrain that was travelling south on the inbound track approaching the Whitehorn Station. It is believed the warning signals were operational at the time of the collision.

The driver brought the train to a stop.

The woman suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The train driver and the passengers were not injured in the collision.

Excessive speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this collision.
