Police investigating fatal collision involving cyclist

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a fatal collision that occurred near the airport.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., on Friday, July 26, 2019, a cyclist was riding north on 11 Street N.E., and attempted to cross 53 Avenue N.E., in the west crosswalk. At the same time, a female in her 30s was driving a delivery truck north on 11 Street and made a left turn onto 53 Avenue, striking the cyclist.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, had to be extricated from under the truck before being transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, however, alcohol, drugs and excessive speed are not believed to be factors in the collision.
