Police investigating early morning shooting

We have recovered a vehicle following a shooting that occurred earlier today in downtown Calgary.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., today, Wednesday, April 19, 2023, police were called to the 300 block of 12 Avenue S.W., for several reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting, however no victims or offenders were located. Due to the number of shots fired, the scene was held for several hours so investigators could conduct a thorough search of the scene in the daylight. Stray bullets were located at the scene and had stuck a nearby building.

At this time, no victims have come forward.

Investigators have spent the last several hours reviewing CCTV footage from the downtown area to track the movements of the offender and victim vehicles. Earlier this afternoon, patrol members found a vehicle of interest to the investigation that was on a tow truck near the 100 block of 16 Avenue N.W. The vehicle was seized for further investigation and efforts are being made to identify the other involved vehicle.

This shooting is believed to be targeted.

This is yet another example of brazen violence that put our entire community at risk. We have dedicated a number of resources from across the Service to hold those responsible accountable, as well as to suppress further incidents of violence.

Acting Staff Sergeant Mike Sushelnitsky of the Organized Crime Response Unit
