Police investigate two pedestrian collisions

Our Traffic Section is investigating two separate pedestrian collisions that have resulted in the death of a man and life-altering injuries for a woman.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a man was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot located at 240 Midpark Way S.E.
At that time, a 2004 Honda CR-V, operated by a man in his 20s, was travelling eastbound in the parking lot. At the same time, a man in his 50s, operating a mobility scooter, was travelling in a southeastern direction when he was struck by the Honda.
The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, and sadly succumbed to their injuries yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and was uninjured.
Speed, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision.

Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of Fairmount Drive S.E. and Fairview Drive S.E.
At that time, it is believed a 2015 Toyota RAV 4, operated by a woman in her 70s, was travelling northbound on Fairmount Drive S.E.
At the same time, a woman in her 20s was walking her dog and crossing Fairmount Drive S.E. in the crosswalk. The Toyota struck the pedestrian as she crossed the roadway.
The pedestrian was transported to hospital in serious condition with life-altering injuries. Her dog was injured but was able to run home.
The driver of the Toyota was uninjured and remained at the scene.
Speed, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision.
“Road safety is the responsibility of both motorists and pedestrians,” says Acting Inspector Andy Woodward of the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section. “We know that tomorrow there will be increased pedestrian traffic as trick-or-treaters head out for Halloween, and we are reminding everyone to slow down and look out for one another so that everyone stays safe.”
