Police investigate two fatal collisions

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate after two separate fatal collisions occurred yesterday in the communities of Bridlewood and Charleswood.

Yesterday, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at approximately 5:20 p.m., police were called to the area of 24 Street S.W. and Bridlecrest Way S.W., for reports of a serious collision that occurred between a sedan and a Calgary Transit bus.

It is believed the sedan, driven by a woman in her 40s, was travelling southbound on 24 Street S.W., approaching the intersection at Bridlecrest Way S.W., when the sedan crossed into the path of the northbound travelling bus.

The sedan struck the bus head-on. Despite life-saving measures provided by first responders, the woman was declared deceased at the scene.

Neither the bus driver nor any passengers sustained any injuries.

Both speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in this collision.

A short time later, at approximately 8:20 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Charleswood Drive N.W. and Brentwood Boulevard N.W., for reports of a second serious collision.

It is believed a pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was crossing Charleswood Drive N.W., in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by an SUV, operated by a man in his 60s.

Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the man was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was uninjured.

Both speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in this collision.
