Police investigate southeast fatality

Our Traffic Section is investigating after a fatal collision resulted in the death of a man yesterday in the community of Acadia.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of Southland Drive S.E. and Bonaventure Drive S.E., involving three vehicles.

A GMC Sierra truck, operated by a man in his 30s, was travelling eastbound on Southland Drive S.E. and entered the intersection at Bonaventure Drive S.E. on a green light. There were three passengers in the vehicle, including a woman in her 30s, a woman in her 50s, and a child.

A Buick Verano, operated by woman in her 40s with a teen passenger, was stopped at a red light at Southland Drive S.E. in the right lane of southbound Bonaventure Drive S.E.

At the same time, a black Ford Mustang, operated by a man in his 70s with a woman in her 70s as a passenger, was travelling northbound on Bonaventure Drive S.E. and is believed to have entered the intersection on a red light, striking the GMC Sierra truck.

As a result of the impact, the truck struck a light standard and came to a rest on a nearby median. The Mustang then struck the Buick before coming to rest north of the intersection.

The driver of the Mustang suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The passenger of the Mustang was transported to hospital for pre-cautionary measures.

 None of the other drivers or passengers were injured.

 Excessive speed is not considered to be a factor in the collision. There is no evidence at this time that alcohol or drugs are factors in this collision.

 Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision.
