Police investigate single-vehicle collision in southeast Calgary

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a single-vehicle collision that occurred earlier this morning along southbound Deerfoot Trail S.E., leaving one man with life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 1:05 a.m., today, Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, driven by a 43-year-old man was travelling southbound on Deerfoot Trail S.E., approaching the ramp for Stoney Trail S.E.

At the time, it is believed the Uplander failed to navigate the curve, resulting in the vehicle colliding with a light pole. The impact caused the vehicle to become airborne and land in a nearby grassy median, where it came to a final rest approximately 130 metres from where it left the road.

The man was transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in this collision, however, speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.

The vehicle was reported as stolen to police.

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate this incident. Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
