Police investigate serious-injury pedestrian collision downtown

A pedestrian was found in life-threatening condition this morning following a collision with a dump truck downtown. 

Just before 6:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, police were called to the intersection of Eighth Avenue S.W. and Fifth Street S.W., for reports of a collision. A woman was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is now investigating. It is believed the woman was crossing Eighth Avenue S.W., in the pedestrian crosswalk on the east side of the intersection. At the same time, a garbage truck was turning eastbound from the southbound lane and struck the woman in the crosswalk. The driver of the truck remained on scene and did not experience any injuries.

Impairment and excessive speed are not considered factors in this collision.
