Police investigate serious-injury, multi-vehicle collision

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a serious-injury, multi-vehicle collision that resulted in three people being sent to hospital on Tuesday.

At approximately 8:55 a.m., on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, it is believed a 2020 Ford Transit van, driven by a 34-year-old man, was travelling westbound on Memorial Drive N.E., when the Ford left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier. The impact caused the vehicle to roll into the grass median and down onto Deerfoot Trail N.E., ejecting the driver from the vehicle who came to a rest on the roadway.

At the same time, it is believed a 2017 Honda Accord, driven by an 81-year-old man with an 80-year-old male passenger, was travelling northbound on Deerfoot Trail N.E. The rolling Ford struck the Honda, causing it to roll over.  

Moments later, a 2025 GMC Sierra, driven by a 20-year-old man and travelling northbound on Deerfoot Trail N.E., behind the Honda, struck the ejected Ford driver.

The driver of the Ford was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Both occupants of the Honda were also taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ford continued to travel northwest for a short distance, coming to rest in a median construction area. 

A 2022 Ram truck towing a utility trailer, travelling northbound in the far-left lane of Deerfoot Trail N.E., struck the Ford, causing damage to the front of the Ram and its trailer.

The drivers of the Ram and the GMC remained at the scene and were not injured.

Police are investigating if excessive speed, drugs, or alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision.
