Police investigate serious-injury hit-and-run collision involving teen

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a hit-and-run collision that occurred over the weekend in the northeast community of Pineridge.

On Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at approximately 4:10 a.m., a collision occurred near the intersection of 22 Avenue N.E. and the 100 block of Pinemill Mews N.E.

At the time, it is believed a dispute occurred between the occupants of a vehicle and a 16-year-old female pedestrian.

The driver attempted to leave while the pedestrian was holding on to the vehicle. The pedestrian fell and was subsequently run over by the vehicle.

The driver and other occupants checked on the pedestrian, but then returned to the vehicle and left the scene.

The pedestrian sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The vehicle was located later in the morning and seized by police.

The driver, a 16-year-old male, came forward and has spoken to investigators. The other occupants of the vehicle have yet to be identified.
