Police investigate serious-injury collision

We continue to investigate a collision that occurred in the city’s southeast leaving one man in serious condition.

At approximately 4 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, a collision occurred in the 1500 block of 36 Street S.E.

At the time, it is believed a four-door sedan was travelling south on 36 Street S.E., approaching 16 Avenue S.E. The sedan was occupied by the driver, a man in his 50s, and a passenger, a woman in her 30s.

The vehicle veered to the right side of the road and struck a parked and unoccupied SUV. The impact forced the SUV forward into a second parked and unoccupied vehicle. The sedan rotated approximately 90 degrees clockwise and came to a rest.

Neither of the occupants in the sedan were wearing seatbelts. As a result, the driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital. The passenger did not suffer injuries and was released at the scene.

Alcohol and drug use on the part of the driver are being investigated as potential factors in this collision. Although the street was snow-packed, it is not believed road conditions were a contributing factor.

The Calgary Police Traffic Section continues to investigate this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
