Police investigate serious-injury collision in the southeast

We are investigating a collision that occurred yesterday on 17 Avenue S.E., near the Deerfoot Trail S.E. interchange.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., yesterday, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, it is believed a 2016 BMW motorcycle, operated by a 48-year-old man, was travelling east on 17 Avenue S.E.

At the same time, it is believed a 2021 Toyota RAV4, operated by a 32-year-old man, was travelling in the same direction.

The motorcycle struck the rear of the Toyota. The rider was then thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway.

The Toyota came to a controlled stop on the shoulder of the road.

The motorcyclist was transported to hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Toyota was uninjured in the collision.

Speed or impairment are not considered to be factors in this collision.
