Police investigate pedestrian collision in the northwest

We continue to investigate a pedestrian collision that occurred on a bridge deck in the city’s northwest earlier this morning.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, it is believed a Honda CRV, driven by a 22-year-old woman, was travelling westbound on 16 Avenue N.W., and began approaching the bridge deck of the overpass crossing Bowness Road N.W.

As the CRV continued along, the woman began to drive in the shoulder lane and struck a 46-year-old man who was walking along the north shoulder of the westbound lanes.

The driver stopped a short distance away and reported the collision to police. The driver was uninjured.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

At this time, drugs, alcohol, or excessive speed are not considered to be factors in this collision.
