Police investigate pedestrian collision in southwest

Our Traffic Section is investigating a serious-injury collision involving a pedestrian that occurred early this morning at the intersection of Macleod Trail and 42nd Avenue S.W.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. today, Friday, July 7, 2023, it is believed a 2002 Honda Civic, operated by a man in his 20s, was travelling southbound on Macleod Trail S.W., approaching the 42nd Avenue S.W. intersection.

At the same time, it is believed a woman was in the north crosswalk at the intersection, walking westbound from the east curb to the west curb, when she was struck by the Honda.

The driver of the Honda stopped the vehicle and remained at the scene. He did not suffer any injuries. The pedestrian was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. Her condition was later upgraded to stable, however she has sustained life-altering injuries.

Neither alcohol nor drugs on the part of the driver are believed to be factors in the collision.
