Police investigate pedestrian collision in city’s southwest

A 31-year-old man remains in hospital with serious, life-altering injuries, following a collision in the community of Southwood yesterday.

At approximately 10:33 p.m., on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, police were called to the intersection of Macleod Trail and Southland Drive S.W., for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

At that time, a 2014 Mercedes-Benz B 250, driven by a man in his 30s, was travelling southbound on Macleod Trail S.W., passing through the intersection with Southland Drive on a green light. At the same time, a pedestrian, near the south crosswalk, encroached into the path of travel of the Mercedes-Benz and was struck.

The pedestrian suffered serious, life-altering injuries and was transported to hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and was not injured. Impairment and excessive speed are not believed to be factors in this collision.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
