Police investigate multi-vehicle collision on Stoney Trail

We continue to investigate a collision involving several vehicles that occurred last night on Stoney Trail N.E.

At approximately 6 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, we were called to northbound Stoney Trail N.E., just north of the interchange with Country Hills Boulevard N.E., for a collision involving four vehicles.

At the time, a grey 2005 Toyota Echo operated by a 28-year-old man, was stationary on the north shoulder.

At the same time, a grey 2007 Toyota Yaris, operated by a 21-year-old woman was travelling northbound on Stoney Trail N.E. As the Yaris approached the Echo, the Echo pulled away from the shoulder into approaching traffic.

The Yaris collided with the Echo and also collided with the backend of a black 2019 GMC Yukon, operated by a 44-year-old woman, who was also travelling northbound on Stoney Trail N.E.

A 35-year-old man was travelling behind the Yukon in a 2021 BMW X3.

As the Yukon steered around the Echo, the BMW struck the Echo.

The BMW came to a controlled stop on the south shoulder. The Yukon continued travelling on Stoney Trail N.E.

Both the Yaris and the Echo came to uncontrolled stops in the south median.

The driver of the Yaris sustained serious injuries, and the driver of the Echo sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were transported to hospital.

The driver of the BMW was uninjured. The driver of the Yukon was later located and was also uninjured.

Alcohol and drugs are being investigated as a factor in this collision for the driver of the Echo.
