Police investigate motorcycle fatality
Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a fatal motorcycle collision that has resulted in the death of a man.
On Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of Macleod Trail S.W. and 99 Avenue S.W.
At that time, a 2013 Hyundai Accent, operated by a man in his 80s, was travelling northbound on Macleod Trail, attempting to turn westbound on 99 Avenue S.W.
The driver of the Hyundai entered the intersection and waited for oncoming traffic to pass before attempting the turn.
At the same time, a 2024 BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle, operated by a 28-year-old man, was travelling southbound on Macleod Trail in the right lane, approaching 99 Avenue S.W.
As the driver of the Hyundai attempted to turn, the motorcycle struck the vehicle, and the rider was dismounted.
The rider suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The driver of the Hyundai was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision, however, speed is being investigated as a possible factor in this collision.
