Police investigate motorcycle collision in southeast

One man has been sent to the hospital in life-threatening condition following a collision earlier today in Calgary’s Foothills industrial area.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. today, Friday, June 7, 2024, it is believed that a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by a man in his 30s, was travelling southbound in the left lane of Barlow Trail S.E., approaching the 66th Avenue S.E. intersection.

At the same time, a 2009 Chevrolet Express van, driven by a woman in her 40s, was travelling on 66th Avenue S.E. It is believed the woman was preparing to turn northbound onto Barlow Trail.

As the motorcycle continued southbound and entered the intersection, the van entered its path of travel. The motorcycle attempted to brake but collided with the driver-side door of the van. The motorcyclist was dismounted and landed on the road. The driver of the van stopped and remained on scene following the collision.

The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

Excessive speed and impairment by drugs or alcohol are not considered to be factors in the collision.
