Police investigate hit-and-run collision in grocery store parking lot

We are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who is believed to have information related to a hit-and-run incident that occurred in the parking lot of a southeast grocery store earlier this week. We are also asking for the public’s help to identify a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at approximately 1:25 p.m., a 77-year-old woman was struck in the parking lot of the Sobeys in Cranston located at 3000, 356 Cranston Road S.E.

At the time, the woman was walking across the parking lot with a shopping cart when a vehicle, described as a dark-blue, two-door, 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt with black rims, reversed out of a west-facing parking stall, struck her and knocked her to the ground causing serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle subsequently fled the scene.

The woman was transported to hospital in stable condition, however her condition has since deteriorated.

Police are now looking to speak with a man who was in the area at the time of the incident and is believed to have information that could help further the investigation.

The man is described as having a medium build and light brown facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball hat with a white Toronto Blue Jays logo, sunglasses, a black jacket, a dark-coloured shirt with a white design on the front, dark-coloured jeans and black shoes.

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate. Anyone with information about this incident or who knows the identity of the man, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
