Police investigate hit-and-run at southeast intersection

Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a serious collision that occurred in the southeast yesterday morning.

At approximately 9:18 a.m., on Thursday, March 16, 2023, police were called to the area of 17 Avenue and 28 Street S.E., for reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a semi-truck.

It is believed the pedestrian, a woman in her 40s, was struck by a construction tractor unit pulling a trailer as it was making a right turn from southbound 28 Street onto westbound 17 Avenue S.E. The woman was struck as she was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. She was later transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition, where she remains.

The semi-truck failed to remain at the scene but was located a short time later by police. The driver, a man in his 50s, was uninjured from the collision and is co-operating with police.

Speed, drugs and alcohol are not currently being investigated as a factor in the collision. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
