Police investigate hit-and-run at northeast intersection

Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a serious collision that occurred in the northeast earlier this morning.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., today, Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, we were called for reports of a multi-vehicle, injury collision at the intersection of 16 Avenue and Edmonton Trail N.E. Upon arrival, officers located three vehicles believed to be involved in the collision and the drivers of two of the vehicles in need of medical attention.

Witnesses reported that a grey Dodge Charger had been travelling eastbound along 16 Avenue at a high rate of speed before seeing it run through a red light where it collided with a black Dodge Charger and a black Jeep Grand Cherokee.

After the collision, the driver of the grey Dodge Charger fled the scene on foot and did not return. As a result, this is being investigated as a hit-and-run incident and we continue to search for the driver of the offending vehicle. The suspect is described as male, approximately 5’10’’ - 6’ tall, with a slim build and possibly wearing a grey jacket and dark pants.

The driver of the black Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The driver and two passengers of the black Dodge Charger were all transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the behaviour of the driver of the grey Dodge Charger prior to the collision, is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Anyone with dashcam footage of the collision is also asked to contact police.
