Police investigate fatal traffic collision

We are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred earlier today, sadly claiming the life of a young man.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday May 3, 2022, a collision occurred between two vehicles at the intersection of Midlake Boulevard and Midpark Boulevard S.E.

It is believed a 20-year-old man, driving a blue Chevrolet Camaro, was stopped at a red light while traveling northbound on Midpark Boulevard.

A black Hyundai Santa Fe, being driven by a 79-year-old man, was travelling eastbound along Midlake Boulevard, and crossed the concrete median separating north and southbound traffic on Midpark Boulevard.

The Hyundai then entered the northbound lanes and struck the driver’s side of the Camaro, pushing the Camaro eastbound, until both vehicles crossed over the eastward sidewalk and broke through a rear garden fence of a home located in the 200 block of Midpark Gardens, coming to a rest on the grass near the garden.

Sadly, the driver of the Camaro was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Speed is being investigated as a possible factor in this collision.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision.
