Police investigate fatal traffic collision in northeast

We continue to investigate a fatal traffic collision that occurred early this morning, sadly claiming the life of a young woman.

At approximately 2 a.m., today, Thursday, July 28, 2022, a collision occurred between a vehicle and a pedestrian along 4 Street N.E., between the two entrances to Huntstrom Drive N.E.

Early information indicates that at the time, two pedestrians, a man and a woman, may have been skateboarding in the southbound travel lane of 4 Street N.E.

It is believed that at the same time a 2005, silver Infiniti M35X, being driven by a man in his 20s, with a passenger, was also travelling south along 4 Street N.E.

The female pedestrian was struck in the southbound travel lanes by the driver of the Infiniti.

The vehicle briefly left roadway, rotating to face backwards and coming to a stop beside the road. The vehicle drove back onto the roadway, and the driver pulled into a neighbouring street, and stopped. The occupants of the car were uninjured. The driver remained at the scene until first responders arrived. Charges are pending, based upon completion of the investigation.

Sadly, the woman who was struck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male pedestrian was not injured.

Alcohol and excessive speed on behalf of the driver are believed to be factors in the collision.
