Police investigate fatal traffic collision in city's northeast

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a serious collision that resulted in the death of a woman earlier today.

On Monday, July 21, 2025, at approximately 5:14 a.m., a pickup truck, operated by a 25-year-old man, is believed to have been travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of 52 Street N.E., south of Temple Drive N.E., before striking a female pedestrian in her 50s.

The truck continued to travel southbound in the northbound lanes, and struck an SUV, driven by a woman in her 30s with a 35-year-old male passenger.

The SUV struck a centre median, ultimately coming to a rest in the southbound lanes.

The truck came to a final rest and was engulfed in flames.

The female pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene.

Both occupants of the SUV were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries while the driver of the truck was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Charges are pending against the driver of the truck.

Excessive speed on the part of the driver of the truck is being investigated as a contributing factor in this collision. At this time, there is no evidence of impairment on behalf of anyone involved in the collision.
