Police investigate fatal single-vehicle collision

A single-vehicle collision that occurred yesterday in the city’s southwest has sadly resulted in the death of a man.

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at approximately 1:10 p.m., we were called for reports of a collision near the area of Tsuut’ina Trail and 90 Avenue S.W.

Investigators have since determined that a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a man in his 30s, was heading south along Tsuut’ina Trail approaching the overpass near 90 Avenue S.W. As the truck approached the overpass, it left the road and crossed into the grass and dirt median.

The truck continued moving forward and struck a bridge support column. As a result, the truck rotated and continued forward striking a second bridge support column before being deflected towards the roadway. The vehicle came to a stop at the edge of the median.

The truck sustained significant damage to the driver’s side, and sadly the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Speed, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact police at the non-emergency number 403-266-1234.
