Police investigate fatal single-vehicle collision on Crowchild Trail
A man has died following an early morning single-vehicle collision on Crowchild Trail.
At approximately 2 a.m., on Friday, July 28, 2023, a single-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Crowchild Trail and 24 Avenue N.W.
Investigators believe the vehicle, a green 1997 Chevrolet Suburban, was travelling southbound on Crowchild Trail N.W., approaching the intersection of 24 Avenue N.W., when the driver failed to maintain the curvature of the travel lane. The vehicle mounted the curb of the centre median on the south side of the intersection and struck a traffic signal pole.
The driver, a 77-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle. He was declared deceased at the scene.
Excessive speed and alcohol are considered factors in the collision.
Our Traffic Section continues to investigate and believe the driver had travelled from Cochrane into Calgary prior to the collision.
