Police investigate fatal single-vehicle collision

A man has died and another man has sustained minor injuries following a single-vehicle collision in the northeast.

At approximately 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, we were called to the area of Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail N.E., for reports of a single-vehicle rollover involving two occupants.

Investigators believe the vehicle, a Western Star Conventional dump truck, was traveling on the ramp from northbound Deerfoot Trail to eastbound Stoney Trail N.E., when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle. The dump truck rolled over and came to rest on the embankment on the south side of the roadway.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene. The 32-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Speed is being investigated as a factor in the collision.  At this time, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors.

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate and is asking anyone who may have information or dashcam footage related to this incident to contact police at the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through either of the following methods:
