Police investigate fatal northeast pedestrian collision
Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a fatal collision involving a teenager that occurred yesterday afternoon.
At approximately, 1:45 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, we were called to the intersection of Rundlehorn Drive N.E. and 26 Avenue N.E., for reports that a pedestrian was struck.
At the time, a grey 2019 Ford Ecosport, operated by a 75-year-old woman, was travelling south on Rundlehorn Drive N.E.
At the same time, a 17-year-old female pedestrian was crossing Rundlehorn Drive N.E., in a marked crosswalk at 26 Avenue N.E., when she was struck by the Ford.
Members of the Calgary Fire Department attended to assist in freeing the pedestrian who became pinned beneath the vehicle. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver was not injured and remained at the scene.
Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision. The driver failing to obey a stop sign is being investigated as a factor in this collision.
