Police investigate fatal northeast collision

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate after a fatal collision occurred earlier today along Memorial Drive between a vehicle and a CTrain.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., today, Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu was struck along westbound Memorial Drive overtop of Deerfoot Trail N.E. The collision caused the vehicle to travel down an embankment, coming to a rest on the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks.

The driver of the vehicle, a 79-year-old man, was declared deceased at the scene. The passenger, a woman in her 70s, sustained minor injuries.

There were no injuries to the driver or passengers on the CTrain.

It is unclear what led to the collision and police continue to investigate.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the Calgary Police Traffic Unit directly by calling 403-428-4000, or the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
