Police investigate fatal hit-and-run collision in city’s northwest

Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a multi-vehicle collision that occurred late yesterday on Stoney Trail N.W., resulting in the death of a 57-year-old woman.

At approximately 11:49 p.m., on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, we responded to a collision in the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail N.W., on the approach to the bridge deck of Nose Hill Drive N.W.

At that time, a white 2019 Toyota Corolla, driven by a woman in her 50s, was travelling southbound along Stoney Trail N.W. in one of the lanes closer to the median.

It is believed the Corolla was then struck by an unknown vehicle. Initial evidence gathered at the scene suggests that the unknown vehicle is likely to be a semi-truck and trailer combination.

This unknown vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

Shortly after, a roadway maintenance truck with two occupants were first on scene and began providing medical aid to the woman.

Moments later, a black 2018 RAM truck, driven by a 21-year-old man, with a 21-year-old passenger, struck a post and cable barrier in the median, ultimately striking the woman. The RAM then hit the rear of the roadway maintenance truck.

The woman was transported to hospital but was pronounced deceased on arrival.

The other drivers and passengers were not injured in this collision.

There is no evidence at this time to indicate if speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.
