Police investigate fatal CTrain collision involving pedestrian

We continue to investigate a fatal CTrain collision that occurred yesterday morning near a downtown CTrain station.

At approximately 8:55 a.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, we were called to the intersection of Centre Street and Seventh Avenue S.E., for reports of a woman who was struck by a CTrain.

At the time, it is believed a CTrain was travelling east on the inbound track approaching the Centre Street Station.

At the same time, it is believed a woman walked across Seventh Avenue S.E., stepped in front of the CTrain and was struck. She then fell and became wedged underneath the CTrain before being dragged a short distance.

The driver brought the train to a stop.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The train driver and passengers were not injured in the collision.

Excessive speed was not considered a factor in this collision.
